HOW WE STARTED
Pure Nut Mylk was started by Vicki Cleaves-Gregory, a pharmacist and single mother of two in Sarasota, FL. It all began with a search for milk alternatives for her young children. Visiting the many local grocery stores trying to find a quality product was very disappointing.
How come the commercially available almond milks contain so many chemicals? Why is it necessary to have a 3 year shelf life? If almonds are such a good source of protein then why is there so little protein in almond milk?
Eventually Vicki began making her own nut milks, which were delicious, but they were only good for about 5 days. After working with the Florida Department of Agriculture for over a year, a unique product/process was developed. December 2017, "Totally Nuts!" was finally available for purchase.
We are so excited! Finally, we are able to offer our high quality, clean label nut mylks to consumers!
WHY ARE PEOPLE TURNING AWAY FROM DAIRY?
*Lactose intolerant/allergy: Between 30-50 million people in this country are believed to be lactose intolerant (up to 2/3rds of the worlds population are lactose intolerant) and about 2-3 % of all children in this country have dairy allergies!!!
*Animal Activists: Another large group of people moving away from the dairy products are the animal activists who avoid dairy products for ethical reasons.
*Environmentalists: A third group of people avoiding dairy products are the environmentalists who believe the methane gas given off by animal waste might be contributing to global warming.
*Medical Reasons: Lastly, we have millions of people in this country that are watching their blood sugar and/or cholesterol. These people are searching for dairy alternatives for medical reasons. A glass of cow's milk contains 11-12 grams of sugar-unsweetened almond milk has 3-4. Cow's milk contains up to 30mg of cholesterol per cup, unsweetened almond milk has none. Alternative milks are a much healthier option for these individuals.
THE TREND TOWARDS DAIRY ALTERNATIVES CONTINUES
The number of people belonging to at least one of these four groups rises every year. Once you know this, you understand why the shelf space for traditional dairy products keeps shrinking and the space for dairy alternatives keeps expanding.This trend has been going on for decades and there is no sign of it changing anytime soon. Every year the number of people searching for alternative milk products increases and we believe these people should finally have access to a good quality product with a significant amount of protein and a clean label.
